Meet Dannevirke, our new foal.

Why Dannevirke? Her grandsire is the incomparable Donnerhall, carrying exceptional Hanoverian lines. The tradition with Hanoverians is that you use the first letter of the sire's name, so Dannevirke is part of the 'D' line from Donnerhall to Donnersohn to Dannevirke.

Her dam is an imported New Zealand thoroughbred. To honor her NZ heritage, we picked a 'D' place in New Zeland for her name: Dannevirke, a small farming town on the North Island with a strong Scandanavian heritage. (Her full sister born a year ago at Riding Right is Duneden, another NZ place name.)

June 16:

Danna is definitely energetic these days. Except when she's not. She seems to have three modes: running and jumping, resting in the grass, and nursing.

June 11:

Danna shows all the sings of beings a warm, friendly, spirited horse. The biggest difficulty in getting her picture is that she always comes right up to the photographer to say hello. If we wanted to post close-ups of her tongue licking the lens, it would be easy.

As you can see below, she's a big fan of running at top speed in circles, followed by a jump or two for the pure joy of it.
